This month’s journal-based CME article is titled " Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt creation for the prevention of gastric variceal rebleeding in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter retrospective study". This is a retrospective study performed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of creation of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in patients with a history of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and gastric variceal hemorrhage.
This program is designed to meet the educational needs of interventional radiologists, hepatobiliary surgeons, hepatologists, nurses, techs, and trainees at all levels with special interest in portal hypertension and HCC. To receive CME credit for this journal-based CME activity, participants must read the journal article and score 75% or better on the post test. Participants will have three opportunities to score 75% or better.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this journal-based CME activity, learners should be able to:
- Discuss the safety of TIPS in patient with HCC
- Understand observed variceal rebleeding rates after TIPS
- Describe risks specific to the presence of HCC when creating TIPS
