This month’s journal-based CME article is titled "Radiation Segmentectomy for the Treatment of Solitary Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Can Outcomes Be Compared to Surgical Resection?". This is a retrospective chart review of sequential patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who were treated with either radiation segmentectomy or surgical resection.  The intent of this analysis was to evaluate quality of segmentectomy in comparison to the standard-of-care, surgical resection.  The primary endpoint, as defined by the authors, was target tumor progression.

This program is designed to meet the educational needs of interventional radiologists, nurses, techs, and trainees at all levels with special interest in treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. To receive CME credit for this journal-based CME activity, participants must read the journal article and score 75% or better on the post test. Participants will have three opportunities to score 75% or better.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this journal-based CME activity, learners should be able to:

• Discuss expected tumor progression times for the patient population.
• Understand observed major adverse events with these treatment modalities for HCC.
• Compare outcomes of radiation segmentectomy to surgical resection.
